Lyrics

<March in place>
The ants go marching one by one.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching one by one.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching one by one,
<Look around dramatically>
To find some food and have some fun.
<March while slowly bending down to the ground>
And they all go marching down,
To the ground,
To go take a nap.
<Pop back upright in three bursts>
Boom, boom, boom.

<March in place>
The ants go marching two by two.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching two by two.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching two by two,
<Stretch your arms left and right>
They stop to stretch and before they move.
<March while slowly bending down to the ground>
And they all go marching down,
To the ground,
To go take a nap.
<Pop back upright in three bursts>
Boom, boom, boom.

<March in place>
The ants go marching three by three.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching three by three.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching three by three,
<Pretend to bounce a ball on your knee>
They bounced a ball upon their knee.
<March while slowly bending down to the ground>
And they all go marching down,
To the ground,
To go take a nap.
<Pop back upright in three bursts>
Boom, boom, boom.

<March in place>
The ants go marching four by four.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching fourby four.
<Punch the air for each Hurrah!>
Hurrah! Hurrah!
<March in place>
The ants go marching four by four,
<Pretend to pick up a crumb and eat it>
Some picnic crumbs, was lunch and more.
<March while slowly bending down to the ground>
And they all go marching down,
To the ground,
To go take a nap.
<Pop back upright in three bursts>
Boom, boom, boom.

History

Lyrics were created by Tia Kennard as an alternative to The Busy Squirrels Song, which was an optional activity for the “5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals!” Journey, part of the “It’s Your Story—Tell It!” series developed by the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). It built of an already simple American Classic, Ants Go Marching and was fun for kindergarteners to move and enjoy.
