1983 Daisy Leader Guidebook Self Care Activity

Activity Description: Introduce the history of the Daisy program and then guide the youth through a historic self-care task from the original 1983 curriculum.


Items Needed:

  • Supplies required for the chosen historical self-care activity
  • (Optional) A photo or illustration of the original 1983 Daisy Leader Guidebook

Before the Meeting Starts:

  1. Pick the activity to do during the meeting. (5–10 min)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30–50 min):

  1. Explain the history. (5 min)
    • Share the history of how the Daisy program started in 1984 without any badges, even the petals. Explain that the first members still did fun activities and learned valuable skills.
    • Introduce the first Daisy Leader Guide which was published in 1983 and explain that they will try one of the exact same self-care tasks used back then.
  2. Do the chosen activity. (20–45 min)
    • Follow the specific preparation and station steps for the selected task.
  3. Quick review. (2–5 min).
    • Discuss how learning to care for oneself is a timeless skill. Ask how it feels to practice a tradition that is decades old.
    • (Optional) Award a simple participation token or stamp to mark the completion of the historic task.
