Lyrics

<March dramatically>
The bear went over the mountain,
The bear went over the mountain,
The bear went over the mountain,
To see what he could see.

<Dramatically look around>
And all that he could see,
And all that he could see,
Was the other side of the mountain,
The other side of the mountain,
The other side of the mountain,
Was all that he could see.

<Pretend to hunt for berries>
The bear went searching for berries,
The bear went searching for berries,
The bear went searching for berries,
To find what he could eat.

<Pretend to eat berries>
And all that he could eat,
And all that he could eat,
Was a bush of sweet red berries,
A bush of sweet red berries,
A bush of sweet red berries,
Was all that he could eat.

<Run and jump in place>
The bear went running and jumping,
The bear went running and jumping,
The bear went running and jumping,
To move how he could move.

<Dramatically stretch and pretend to climb things>
He really liked to move,
He really liked to move,
He liked to stretch and climb things,
He liked to stretch and climb thing,
He liked to stretch and climb things,
He really liked to move.

<Slow down singing and slowly walk in place>
The bear went back to his cavern,
The bear went back to his cavern,
The bear went back to his cavern,
To rest how he could rest.

<Curl up and stretch like going to take a long nap>
And how he liked to rest,
And how he liked to rest,
He loved to curl up all winter long,
He loved to curl up all winter long,
He loved to curl up all winter long,
It was how he liked to rest.

History

Lyrics were created by Tia Kennard as an alternative to The Busy Squirrels Song, which was an optional activity for the “5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals!” Journey, part of the “It’s Your Story—Tell It!” series developed by the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). It built of an already simple American Classic, The Bear Went Over the Mountain and was fun for kindergarteners to move and enjoy.
