Activity Description: Act as ancient architects by drawing the Parthenon using only basic shapes.
Items Needed:
- Parthenon Drawing Challenge
- Drawing tools
- (Optional) Rulers for drawing straight lines
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15 min):
- Explain the activity. (2 min)
- Give a Parthenon Drawing Challenge worksheet and a drawing tool to each youth.
- Before the drawing begins, briefly explain that the Parthenon was built thousands of years ago in Greece as a temple for Athena and a safe place to hold the city’s treasures.
- Ask everyone to look closely at the two pictures of the building on their page. Explain that the top picture shows the ruins today and the bottom shows what it likely looked like in the past.
- Draw it out. (10 min)
- Use the empty space at the bottom of the page to draw their own version of the Parthenon. Only use squares, rectangles, and triangles to make the building.
