Activity Description: Draw cards to learn about different architectural structures and act out each shape.
Items Needed:
- Architectural Structural Elements Card
- Scissors
- (Optional) A small bowl or bag to hold the mixed cards
Before the Meeting Starts:
- Prep the cards. (5 min)
- Print and cut out the nine Architectural Structural Elements cards before the meeting.
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 10–15 min):
- Explain the activity. (2–5 min)
- Gather the youth in an open area and place the shuffled cards face down in a pile.
- One youth will draw a card and read the name and description of the structure out loud. Everyone will follow the “Act it Out” instructions on the card to form the shape.
- Act it Out. (8–10 min)
- They can grab a partner up to build the arch and vault shapes.
- If a real wall is not available to act out the flying buttress, a partner can act as a wall.
- Allow time for all nine shapes to be acted out.
