Lasting Help: Bat Box Helper

Note: Lasting Help is a service project that continues to benefit the community long after the original work is finished. This can be done by sharing knowledge or creating something permanent. This could be a structure or program that another organization will continue to do after the original set up is complete.

Activity Description: Assisting in assembling a kit or decorating a ready-made box provides a safe daytime home for bats.

  2. Get Bat Box/House ready. (15–50 min).
    • Get all supplies ready and prepped for easy assembly by the youth group, or make the bat box for the youth group to do finishing touches on.

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30 min):

    • Bats require safe, dark places to sleep during the day, and any materials used on the box must be safe for the environment.
  2. Help finish the Bat Box/House. (15–50 min).
    • Help an adult assemble the bat box kit if it is not pre-made. They can assist by handing the correct pieces or tools to the adult.
