New Meeting Room Walk About

Activity Description: An interactive walkthrough where the youth collaborate to establish troop routines and map out their meeting space.

Items Needed:

  • Colored painter’s tape or heavy paper cards
  • (Optional) Coloring tools
  • (Optional) Large printed icons representing a backpack, a jacket, a restroom, and a trash can
  • (Optional) A stuffed animal to use for a practice run

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–40 min):

  1. Look around the room together. (5–10 min)
    • Lead a physical walkthrough of the entrance area to designate storage spots.
    • Stop at the door and ask where jackets and bags can safely sit without blocking the walkway. Let them vote on the best spot and stick a backpack or jacket icon on the wall or floor to mark it.
    • Visit the supply storage area. Discuss whether supplies should be cleaned up immediately after an activity or saved until the end of the meeting.
  2. Take a trip to the restroom. (5–15 min)
    • Visit restroom areas to learn where they are and establish usage routines.
    • Gather near the restrooms to decide as a group if restroom breaks should be a group routine or if individuals should signal for breaks.
  3. Do a practice run. (5–15 min)
    • Have everyone pick up their belongings, step outside the room, and practice entering while using their new spots.
    • (Optional) Place a stuffed animal in a “dangerous” spot (like tripping over a bag) and ask how to fix it based on the new rules.
