Activity Description: Using a familiar tune, youth create and perform their own animal care movement song to perform.

Items Needed:

  • Pen and paper for notes
  • (Optional) Music player
  • (Optional) Upbeat background music

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–40 min):

  1. Select animal care actions to turn into movements. (5–10 min).
    • Review care tasks like feeding, brushing, and walking an animal.
    • Have everyone practice a simple motion for each task, such as pretending to scoop food or brush fur.
  2. Put the movements to a familiar melody. (10–20 min).
    • Introduce a simple tune like “This Is the Way” or “If You’re Happy and You Know It”. Combine the chosen movements with the song rhythm.
    • Create new words to the tune that match the actions they created.
