Activity Description: Visual animal care guides are created and presented to teach an audience how to care for animals.
Items Needed:
- Paper to make your own pictures OR Printed Mini Coloring Sheets to color
- Coloring tools
- (Optional) Tape
- (Optional) Poster board
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 40 min):
- Discuss and plan. (5 min)
- Discuss various ways to help animals in the local community.
- Ask the youth to recall what they have learned about caring for animals. What do animals need to stay healthy and safe? What could they draw to show how to do that?
- Make drawings. (15 min)
- Provide a coloring sheet or blank paper for them to illustrate an animal care tip. Encourage them to use many colors to make their illustration clear.
- Leader writes a sentence. (10 min)
- Youth each dictate a short sentence to a leader that describes the care action they illustrated. Ensure the sentence is written clearly so the audience understands the message.
- Present their images to an audience. (10 min)
- Present the finished work to an audience as an animal care expert. Each youth explains the care step they chose and why it helps animals.
