Activity Description: Work in pairs to plan and act out various cookie selling methods for the group to guess.
Items Needed:
- Ways to Sell Activity Cards (see list below)
- Take-home planning worksheets (see example below)
- Pens or pencils
- (Optional) Props like a toy phone or a small wagon
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30 min):
- Start the activity. (2 min).
- Explain they will be in pairs that will act out different ways to sell cookies. Each will get a 5 minute secret planning period they can decide how to act. Acts need to be one minute or less. The group will then guess what way to sell it might be. All acts will be chosen at random, so they need to be prepared to act at anytime they are called.
- Pair the youth up and let each team select one card from the stack.
- Plan it out. (5 min).
- Provide a planning period for all teams to prepare their scenes at the same time. Circulate to offer help with ideas and explain any methods that seem difficult.
- Perform and guess. (15–40 min).
- Choose teams in a random order to perform their secret scene.
- Ask the rest of the group to guess the selling method after each performance.
- Briefly go over what the card states for description and scout responsibilities after each act is guessed.
- Quick review. (3 min).
- Lead a short discussion about which selling ways they find most interesting.
- Remind them that they do not need to do every type of sale.
- Take home worksheets. (2–3 min).
- Hand out the take-home worksheets for them to complete with parents
- Explain that they should only write names for the methods their family chooses to use.
