Activity Description: Honor courageous people by creating a thank‑you card, welcoming a guest speaker, and sharing short examples of doing their best.
Items Needed:
- A guest speaker of someone who has demonstrated courage in real life, or someone pretending to be a brave character.
- Have guest speaker arrive 15–20 minutes after the activity starts to allow time for Thank You card making without guest speaker there.
- Paper or cardstock for thank‑you cards
- Coloring tools
- (Optional) Envelopes for the cards
- (Optional) Timer
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 35–50 min):
- Prepare for the guest speaker. (5–7 min)
- Explain that a guest speaker will visit who shows courage in their life or story. Courage can look different for everyone.
- Share that the speaker may be a real person or someone pretending to be a brave character.
- Make a thank‑you card. (10–15 min)
- Have youth decorate a card to honor the guest speaker and say thank you for coming to their meeting.
- Encourage simple drawings or words that show appreciation.
- Welcome the guest speaker. (5–30 min)
- Introduce the speaker and explain why they are an example of courage.
- Have the speaker share a time when they did their best.
- Allow the speaker to lead their activity or presentation.
- Share one‑sentence examples. (12–15 min)
- Invite each youth to share one short sentence about a time they did their best.
- Keep sharing to one minute or less per youth.
- (Optional) Use a timer to help youth wrap up quickly.
