Kinder Introduction: Lion

Activity Description: Learn about lions as symbols of courage through simple movement, group discussion, and easy comparisons.

Items Needed:

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 10–15 min):

  1. Explore lions as symbols. (3–4 min)
    • Look at the picture of a lion and notice the large mane. They have loud roars and powerful bodies.
    • Lions are often used as symbols of courage and strength.
    • Share one time you felt brave like a lion.
    • (Optional) Show flags where lions are used as national symbols.
  2. Learn about prides. (3–4 min)
    • Explain that they live in family groups called prides.
    • Share something you know about lions from a book, movie, or zoo visit.
  3. (Optional) Compare cubs and leopards. (2–3 min)
    • Look at the leopard picture and notice the spots.
    • Learn that lion cubs are born with spots like leopards have. This helps them hide, and these fade as they grow.
  4. Move like lions. (2–3 min)
    • Practice a quiet “silent stalk” by creeping gently on hands and knees.
    • Make a big “pride roar” together to feel how powerful lions can be.
  5. Reflect together. (1 min)
    • A lion is brave, loud, and loves to be with its family. If you were a lion in a pride, would you rather be the one who roars the loudest or the one who is best at creeping through the grass?
