WTD Event – Festival of Nations

Activity Description: Take part in a World Thinking Day event by hosting a country booth and exploring booths from other countries.


Items Needed:

  • Trifold board
  • (Optional) Table cover
  • (Optional) Cultural decorations
  • (Optional) Food samples that follow allergy policies
  • (Optional) SWAPs
  • (Optional) Paper passports
  • (Optional) Rubber stamps
  • (Optional) Music or stories from the chosen country

Before the Meeting (Estimated Total Time: 20–80 min):

  1. Choose a country to host and prepare your display. (20–40 min)
    • Pick a country your troop wants to learn about. Gather simple facts and pictures to share. Create a trifold board with cultural facts, photos, and symbols.
    • (Optional) Collect decorations and any safe food samples if allowed.

  2. (Optional) Make event materials. (10–40 min)
    • Prepare SWAPs that match your country.
    • Gather paper passports and stamps for visitors.

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 90–120 min):

  1. Set up your booth. (10–15 min)
    • Arrange the trifold board, decorations, SWAPs, and food samples.
    • Place passports and stamps where they are easy to reach.
  2. Join the opening ceremony. (10–15 min)
    • Listen to the welcome message from the event organizers.
    • Notice how the event celebrates global friendship.
  3. Host your booth. (30–60 min)
    • Take turns hosting your booth and visiting others so everyone gets a chance to do both.
    • Share one or two simple facts about your country. Invite visitors to look at the display or try a small activity.
    • (Optional) Stamp passports for visitors.
    • (Optional) Share your SWAP or food sample from your country.
  4. Visit other booths. (30–60 min)
    • Walk around the event and explore other countries.
    • Notice how each country has unique traditions and symbols.
    • (Optional) Collect SWAPs, try food samples, and/or get your passport stamped.
  5. Join the closing ceremony. (10–15 min)
    • Gather with the group to reflect on what you learned.
    • Think about how youth around the world are connected through WAGGGS.
