Global Community Connection Hunt

Activity Description: Explore your community using a scavenger hunt sheet to find items that show connections to cultures around the world.


Items Needed:

Before the Event:

  1. Plan the exploration. (3–5 min)
    • Look at a community calendar with an adult to find a parade, fair, festival, or exhibit with a global connection.
    • If no event is happening, choose a neighborhood walk or visit a library or community center.

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–40 min):

  1. Review the scavenger hunt sheet. (2–3 min)
    • Look at each item on the sheet, such as another language, cultural food, decorations, music, or clothing.
    • Talk briefly about what each item means.
  2. Explore the community. (10–20 min)
    • Walk through a neighborhood, community center, library, or event space.
    • Look for items that match the scavenger hunt list, such as flags, cultural festivals, books, or signs in other languages.
  3. Mark what you find. (5–8 min)
    • Circle each item on the sheet as soon as it is spotted.
    • (Optional) Take photos of interesting discoveries.
  4. Reflect on the findings. (3–5 min)
    • Share which items were easiest or hardest to find.
    • Talk about how these items show global connections in the community.
  5. Create a short journal page. (Optional, 3–5 min)
    • Draw or write about the most interesting cultural item discovered and where it was found.
