Toy Making – Toy Binoculars

Activity Description: Youth make simple pretend binoculars using cardboard tubes and string.


Items Needed:

  • 2 toilet paper rolls
  • Tape or glue
  • String or yarn
  • Hole punch or scissors
  • Markers or crayons
  • (Optional) Stickers or decorations

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–20 min):

  1. Attach the toilet paper rolls together. (5 min)
    • Tape or glue the two rolls side by side so they line up evenly.
  2. Decorate the binoculars. (5 min)
    • Add colors or patterns with markers or crayons.
    • (Optional) Add stickers or decorations to match a theme.
  3. Make holes for the strap. (3 min)
    • Punch a hole near the top of each roll or use scissors to make small holes.
  4. Add the neck strap. (4 min)
    • Tie one end of the string through each hole.
    • (Optional) Adjust the length so the binoculars hang comfortably.
  5. Use the binoculars. (1 min)
    • Try them out for pretend play or simple nature observation.
