Toy Making – Cardboard Puzzle

Activity Description: Youth create a simple puzzle by drawing a picture on cardboard and cutting it into pieces.


Items Needed:

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Markers or crayons
  • (Optional) Ruler
  • (Optional) Stickers or decorations

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 13–18 min):

  1. Cut a piece of cardboard into a shape. (3 min)
    • Make a square or rectangle.
    • (Optional) Use a ruler to make the edges straight.
  2. Draw a picture on the cardboard. (7 min)
    • Cover the whole surface with a design.
    • Add color and detail with markers or crayons.
  3. Cut the picture into puzzle pieces. (3 min)
    • Cut the cardboard into smaller squares or rectangles.
    • Try to make each piece about the same size.
    • (Optional) Cut irregular shapes or puzzle‑style pieces for an extra challenge.
  4. (Optional) Solve the puzzle. (5 min)
    • Mix up the pieces and put the picture back together.
