Team Animal Care Mural

Activity Description: Create a mural showing simple ways youth can help take care of animals.


Items Needed:

  • Mural-size sheet of paper
  • Paper to make your own pictures OR Printed Mini Coloring Sheets to color
  • Coloring tools
  • Glue or tape
  • (Optional) Scissors
  • (Optional) Assorted craft materials

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 22–32 min):

  1. Show the mural paper and explain the project. (2 min)
    • Explain they will learn small ways they can help animals stay safe, healthy, and loved. Ask them to each draw one way they can help and add it to a big mural.
  2. Brainstorm easy animal‑care tasks. (3 min)
    • Write down ideas from the youth such as feeding, brushing, or giving water. (See list of ideas below instructions).
  3. Choose one task to draw. (2 min)
    • Each youth picks one simple action they can help with to draw or color.
  4. Draw and add drawings to the mural. (15 min)
    • Youth spend time drawing and coloring their chosen scene. Let them glue or tape their drawings onto the large mural.
  5. (Optional) Decide where to display the mural. (10 min)
    • Suggest places like a school or library to inspire other kindergarteners.
    • (Note: This step is required to make this activity a Kinder Take Action Project.)

Ideas for Simple Visual Scenes (At Least 20):

  1. Filling a pet’s water bowl
  2. Pouring food into a pet dish
  3. Brushing a dog’s fur
  4. Brushing a cat’s fur
  5. Helping an adult clean a cage
  6. Picking up dog poop with an adult
  7. Walking a dog with an adult
  8. Playing with a cat using a toy
  9. Giving a pet gentle love and attention
  10. Helping close a gate to keep a pet safe
  11. Putting toys away so pets don’t trip
  12. Helping refill a bird feeder
  13. Helping an adult clean a fish tank
  14. Helping plant flowers that bees like
  15. Drawing a sign that says “Be Kind to Animals”
  16. Helping recycle to protect animal habitats
  17. Turning off lights to save energy for wildlife
  18. Picking up litter at a park with an adult
  19. Making a poster about protecting endangered animals
  20. Making a safe home for an endangered animal
  21. Putting a collar or tag on a pet
