Camp Skill – Camp Fire Emergency Plan

Activity Description: Youth practice creating a simple fire safety plan by choosing exits, meeting spots, and ways to contact help.

Items Needed:

  • None

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 min):

  1. Make an exit plan. (8–10 min)
    • Pretend the meeting space is a cabin. Discuss safe ways to leave a building, such as doors or windows if needed.
    • Look for a safe place near the “cabin” where everyone can gather. Agree on a meeting spot such as a nearby tree or signpost.
    • Practice a calm and safe exit using the nearest door.
  2. Practice contacting help. (8–10 min)
    • Learn how to call 911 in an emergency.
    • Practice a pretend call including:
      • Their name
      • Their location
      • The type of emergency
      • If anyone is hurt or needs help
  3. (Optional) Put it all together. (6–7 min)
    • Walk through the full fire plan: exit, meet, and contact help.
    • Reflect on what they learned and why having a plan keeps people safe.
