Toy Making – Fabric Bean Bag

Activity Description: Youth sew a small fabric bean bag and fill it with rice or beans.


Items Needed:

  • Fabric squares (about 4×4 inches)
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Rice or dry beans
  • (Optional) Fabric glue
  • (Optional) Pins or clips

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30 min):

  1. Place two fabric squares together. (3 min)
    • Line up all edges neatly.
    • (Optional) Use pins or clips to hold the fabric in place.
  2. Sew three sides of the square. (10 min)
    • Use small stitches so the filling does not fall out. Leave one side open for filling.
    • (Optional) Use fabric glue instead of sewing if needed.
  3. Fill the bean bag. (5 min)
    • Add rice or beans until the bag is about two‑thirds full.
  4. Sew the last side closed. (7 min)
    • Make sure the seam is tight and secure.
  5. Test the bean bag. (5 min)
    • Toss it gently or try it in a simple game.
