Toy Making – Fabric Bean Bag – Youth Activity Archive

Activity Description: Youth sew a small fabric bean bag and fill it with rice or beans.

Items Needed:

Fabric squares (about 4×4 inches)
Needle and thread
Scissors
Rice or dry beans
(Optional) Fabric glue
(Optional) Pins or clips

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30 min):

Place two fabric squares together. (3 min)
- Line up all edges neatly.
- (Optional) Use pins or clips to hold the fabric in place.
Sew three sides of the square. (10 min)
- Use small stitches so the filling does not fall out. Leave one side open for filling.
- (Optional) Use fabric glue instead of sewing if needed.
Fill the bean bag. (5 min)
- Add rice or beans until the bag is about two‑thirds full.
Sew the last side closed. (7 min)
- Make sure the seam is tight and secure.
Test the bean bag. (5 min)
- Toss it gently or try it in a simple game.
