“Do Our Best” Circle

Activity Description: Youth share examples of doing their best and learn that effort and practice help them grow.


Items Needed:

  • (Optional) Open space for the group to sit in a circle

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 10–15 min):

  1. Gather the group into a circle. (1–2 min)
    • Make sure everyone can see and hear each other.
  2. Talk about doing your best. (2–3 min)
    • Explain that only the youth can know when they have done their best. Remind them that doing nothing is never doing their best.
    • Share one example as a leader.
  3. Give time to think. (2–3 min)
    • Youth will need to give short examples of times they tried their hardest. Encourage them to think about home, school, or group activities.
      • “When did you work really hard at something?”
      • “Have you ever tried your best to help someone?”
      • “Did you ever practice something until you got better at it?”
  4. Let each youth share their story. (5–8 min)
    • Youth briefly explain what happened, what they did, and how it made them feel.
    • Keep stories short so everyone has a turn.
    • (Optional) Youth also explain why it is important to do your best.
