Activity Description: Youth act out animal behaviors for others to guess.
Items Needed:
- Animal charades cards
- Animal Charades by The Badge Archive
- Free Animal Charades Instructions and Cards on TPT by Engaged Little Learners
- Animal Charade Cards by Make Life Lovely
- A container or bowl to hold cards
- (Optional) Laminated cards for reuse
Before the Meeting Starts:
- Prepare the animal charades cards before the activity. (5 min)
- Use any printable set that fits your group.
- (Optional) Laminate cards for reuse.
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15 min):
- Choose one Youth to start the game. (1 min)
- A youth is chosen as the performer and draws a card without showing it to anyone.
- The performer acts out the animal silently. (3 min)
- No words or noises allowed.
- Use movement, gestures, and body language.
- Have other youth watch and raise their hands to guess. (3 min)
- Choose one youth to guess.
- If the guess is wrong, pick another youth.
- If correct, the guessing youth takes the next turn.
- Continue playing until everyone has had a turn or time runs out. (6 min)
- (Optional) Play multiple rounds with new cards.
Variations
- Team Charades: Split into teams. One scout acts while their team guesses. Correct guesses earn points. Alternate turns.
- No-Limit Actions: Scouts can use animal noises while acting.
- Guess the Habitat: Scouts act out animals, and others guess their habitat (e.g., jungle or ocean).
- Animal Clues: If no one guesses, the actor gives three clues about the animal.
- Speed Round: Act out as many animals as possible in 10 seconds while the group guesses.
- Mystery Match: Combine two animals into one funny creature. The group guesses both!
