G.S. Cookies – Team Words

Activity Description: Youth play a team-building game by forming letters with their hands or bodies to spell words related to their cookie business.

Items Needed:

  • (Optional) Slips of paper with 4–5 letter words
  • (Optional) Smartphone or camera to take photos

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 min):

  1. Demonstrate as a full group. (3–4 min)
    • Show how six youth can form the word “Cookie” using their hands or bodies. Practice together so everyone understands how to make letters.
    • (Optional) Take photos which could be used to post on social media with the troop’s QR code for cookie selling.
  2. Split into small groups. (3–4 min)
    • Divide youth into groups of 4–5. Each group chooses a word related to cookies or the troop.
  3. Plan poses. (4–5 min)
    • Groups take time to plan how they will form each letter.
    • (Optional) They prepare to perform without talking.
  4. Perform and guess. (5–6 min)
    • Each group performs their word silently. The troop guesses what word each group spells.
    • (Optional) Take photos to share with families.
  5. Discuss teamwork. (3–4 min)
    • Talk about how each youth’s role helped the group succeed. Share what they learned about working together.
  6. (Optional) Challenge round. (5–10 min)
    • Give each group a slip of paper with a 4–5 letter word. Groups have 2 minutes to plan silently.
    • Perform the word without talking and let the troop guess.
    • Reflect on how teamwork changes when communication is limited.
