Voting – Fist to Five

Activity Description: Youth vote by holding up fingers to show their level of interest in different options.


Items Needed:

  • List of options to vote on
  • Pen and paper for leaders to make notes of voting results

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 10–15 min):

  1. Present the options. (3–4 min)
    • Show youth the choices one at a time. Give a short description of each option.
  2. Hold up fingers to vote. (4–6 min)
    • Youth show interest by holding up fingers from a closed fist (0) to five fingers (5). Explain that a closed fist is no interest while a full five is “I really want this one”.
    • (Optional) Youth keep heads down and hands up to allow privacy.
  3. Review the results. (3–4 min)
    • Leaders count the fingers shown for each option and write the total interest.
    • (Optional) Discuss the level of interest and decide which options move forward.
  4. Share the decision. (2–3 min)
    • Announce the chosen option(s). Record the decision so the group can follow it later.
