Voting – Envelopes and Slips

Activity Description: Youth vote by placing slips of paper into envelopes labeled with different choices.


Items Needed:

  • Envelopes labeled with each choice
  • Slips of paper that are small enough to fit in the envelopes
  • Pen and paper for leader to record the results
  • (Optional) Extra envelopes for tie‑breaker voting

Before the Meeting Starts:

  1. Prepare envelopes. (3–4 min)
    • Label each envelope with a different choice. Place the envelopes where youth can easily reach them.

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–20 min):

  1. Place slips in envelopes. (4–6 min)
    • Give each youth three slips of paper. Youth place their slips of paper into the containers with their favorite ideas.
    • (Optional) Use a total of five slips of paper. Three slips of paper can be used for their favorite option and two slips of paper for second and one slips of paper for their third choice.
    • (Optional) Use a total of five slips of paper. Two slips of paper can be used for their favorite option and then they get three choices for only one slip of paper.
  2. Count the votes. (4–6 min)
    • Collect the envelopes and count the slips inside each one.
    • If two or more choices tie, prepare a tie‑breaker round with one slip per Youth.
    • Announce the choices with the most votes. Record the decisions so the group can follow them later.
