G.S. Cookies – Pitch Pointers

Activity Description: Youths practice connecting with customers by creating and sharing their cookie pitch.

Items Needed:

  • VTK Pitch Pointers by GSUSA for each youth
  • Pen or Pencils
  • (Optional) Mirror or device for recording practice

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 min):

  1. Answer the guiding question in a circle. (5–6 min)
    • Ask: “How will you connect with your customers? What will you tell them?” Youth go around the circle once, giving an answer or saying “pass.”
    • Go around the circle a second time so Youth who passed can share, and others may repeat or reword answers.
  2. Read Pitch Pointers. (2–3 min)
    • Youth take turns reading the Pitch Pointers by GSUSA handout. Repeat or add clarity after each point as needed.
  3. Write a pitch. (5–6 min)
    • Give each youth one of the Pitch Pointers by GSUSA pages. Youth write out what they will say to customers. Keep the pitch short and clear.
  4. Pair off scouts. (6–10 min)
    • Youth share their pitches with each other. One reads their pitch and the other answers as if they were a customer. Then they swap and the other reads while the original read acts as a customer.
  5. Reflect on practice. (3–4 min)
    • As a full group, youth discuss how practice makes pitching easier and more fun.
  6. (Optional) Practice at home or with tools. (3–4 min)
    • Youth can practice with family, on video calls, or with a mirror. They can record themselves with adult help to post on their digital site.
