G.S. Cookies – Target Ring Group Goal Tracker

Activity Description: Youths create and decorate a troop goal tracker with the rings of a target to show progress toward their cookie package goal.

Items Needed:

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 min):

  1. Review troop package goal. (1–2 min)
    • Remind Youth of the troop’s chosen cookie package goal. Show the Target sample from the TBA Goal Tracker Sampler.
    • Explain how the main goal can go in the center of a target, and the smaller goals go in the rings around it. Each time we reach a smaller goal, we move closer to the center, showing our progress until we reach the main goal.
  2. Practice updating the tracker. (5–6 min)
    • Show how to color in or mark sections of the target goal tracker in the TBA Goal Tracker Sampler as packages are sold.
    • Youth take turns making a mark in a section to see how it works.
  3. Set up group tracker. (4–5 min)
    • Trace a new Target Goal tracker on poster paper to make a larger display.
    • Youth help decorate the poster with troop colors, mascot, or fun designs.
  4. Predict progress. (3–5 min)
    • Ask Youth to make simple predictions about how much closer the troop will be at the next meeting. Encourage them to think about teamwork and how every package helps.
  5. Display the tracker. (2–3 min)
    • Place the decorated tracker in a visible spot for the troop. Explain that it will be updated each meeting to celebrate progress together.
  6. (Optional) Make personal trackers. (5–10 min)
    • Provide a paper (or a printed copy of the Target sampler) for each youth to mark with their own personal goal. Youth decide what the smaller goals leading up to their personal goal will be and decorate their personal tracker to take home and use.
