Activity Description: Youth make a personal goals stick to track cookie sales progress.
Items Needed:
- Have a Troop Goal already decided
- Wooden paint stirrers or rulers
- Black markers
- Rubber bands or thin ribbons
- (Optional) Coloring supplies for decorating
Before the Meeting Starts:
- Create a Sample Stick. (5-10 min)
- Mark one paint stirrer or ruler to make a sample stick to as a way to show what the markings should look like.
- Keep the numbers off the stick until the meeting when the troop goal is decided.
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20-40 min):
- Track troop goals. (5-10 min)
- Show the sample stick created before the meeting to explain how the stick is used to track goals.
- Use a black marker to write the correct number for the troop goal on the top of the stick. Start with a low number at the bottom and move up to the main goal at the top.
- Wrap a rubber band or thin ribbon around the bottom of the stick.
- Place the decorated tracker in a visible spot for the troop. Explain that it will be updated each meeting to celebrate progress together.
- Mark cookie goals. (10 min)
- Give each youth a wooden paint stirrer or ruler.
- Youth use a black marker to write or draw cookie goals along the stick. Start with a low number at the bottom and move up to the main goal at the top.
- (Optional) Draw pictures on one side to remind them of their goals.
- Add the tracker band. (5 min)
- Wrap a rubber band or thin ribbon around the bottom of the stick.
- Youth will move the band upward each time a sales goal is met.
- (Optional) Share and celebrate. (5-10 min)
- Youth show their personal goal sticks.
