G.S. Cookies – Social Media Campaign

Activity Description: Youths plan a social media campaign using cookie images and scheduled posts.

Items Needed:

  • Calendar of the cookie season
  • Links to available cookie images (see list below activity instructions)
  • (Optional) Image editing tool, like Canva, to create unique images

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–25 min):

  1. Review campaign basics. (3–4 min)
    • Explain what a social media campaign is. Discuss how posts can share troop goals and attract customers.
      • A social media campaign is like a planned series of posts that all work together to share one big idea or goal. Instead of posting random things, you choose a theme (like selling cookies, raising money, or promoting an event), decide what images or messages to use, and spread them out over time on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook.
    • Make sure youth understand they must be 13 or older to use social media, or pair with a parent to use their account. Allowed platforms include Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. Not allowed: public marketplaces, Craigslist, Amazon, eBay, or neighborhood apps.
  2. Hand out calendars. (3–4 min)
    • Show the cookie season timeline.
    • Talk about how often posts should be made. Posting once a day is possible, but most audiences respond better to 1–2 posts per week.
  3. Explore available images. (4–5 min)
    • Youth look through cookie images provided.
    • (Optional) Use Canva or another tool to edit or create unique images.
  4. Plan posts. (6–8 min)
    • Youth decide what to post, when to post, and on which platforms. Make sure they share the troop goal.
    • Discuss how different platforms may reach different audiences.
  5. (Optional) Share campaign ideas. (4–5 min)
    • Youth present their planned posts to the group.
