Activity Description: Youths make small cards to carry that explain their troop goal, troop number, and cookie prices. They can choose to role-play with them after they are made.
Items Needed:
- Small cardstock or index cards
- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
- Troop number and cookie price information
- (Optional) Stickers or decorations
- (Optional) Lanyard to place card inside for easy reference when selling
Before the Meeting Starts:
- Prepare card materials. (3–5 min)
- Set out cardstock, markers, and decorations.
- Write down the troop number and cookie price information they will need to include on the cards. Provide one copy for each planned small group.
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–30 min):
- Explain what these cards are for. (2 min)
- Tell youth the cards are to help them remember what to say when talking to customers. Explain that the cards will have the troop number, cookie price(s), and troop goal to make it easy to remember and share with our customers.
- Let them know they can even write a short script if they want to.
- Write troop details. (5–7 min)
- Youth add troop number and cookie price(s) to their card.
- Include the troop goal in a short sentence or bullet list.
- (Optional) Add a simple script. (4–6 min)
- Youth copy or adapt the basic script onto their card. They need to keep the wording short and easy to remember.
- Decorate the cards. (5–7 min)
- Youth use colors, stickers, or drawings to make cards eye-catching. Encourage creativity while keeping the information clear and able to be read.
- (Optional) Practice using the cards. (5–10 min)
- Youth take turns reading their card as if talking to a customer.
- Remind them the card is for confidence and quick reference during cookie sales.
Sample Script for a Kindergartener:
“Hi. My name is [insert name] in Troop [insert number]. We’re selling cookies to [insert goal]. They are $[insert price]. Would you like to buy some?”
