G.S. Cookies – Goal Inspired Bracelet

Activity Description: Youths make motivational bracelets to represent their cookie sale goals and share them with each other.

Items Needed:

  • Final choices to vote on the Troop Goal (Or already know what the Troop Goal is)
  • Elastic string
  • Scissors
  • Beads in theme colors
  • Paper plates or other container to hold loose beads for each scout
  • (Optional) Sample Goal Ideas for GSUSA by The Badge Archive
  • (Optional) Numbered beads to show their goal amount
  • (Optional) Extra beads for friendship designs

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30–40 min):

Note: If your troop already has a Troop Goal, skip to Step 4.

  1. Ask Youth to vote on the final choices. (4–6 min)
    • Youth vote by raising hands, placing stickers, or using tokens. Or read each idea aloud and ask youth to clap for the ones they like best. Count claps to see which ideas are most popular.
    • Count votes and announce the top choice.
    • See GSUSA – D/B/J Voting or GSUSA – Teen Scout Voting for more details on how to vote.
  2. Talk about the goal. (4–5 min)
    • Ask Youth what they like about the winning goal.
    • Talk about how many cookie packages the troop will try to sell to reach their goals. Help Youth understand how their goal connects to their favorite ideas.
  3. Mention personal goals (2 min)
    • Divide the troop total goal by the number of active scouts to determine how much each scout should try to sell.
    • Remind all youths “Every scout helps in their own way. Some will sell a little, some will sell a lot, and that’s okay! We’re working together as a team. This number shows how much help the troop needs, but your family can also pick your own goal and try for fun rewards from the council.”
  4. Prepare bracelet materials. (3–4 min)
    • Cut elastic string to fit each Youth’s wrist.
    • Give each scout a paper plate or other container to hold loose beads.
    • Provide beads and/or numbered beads for scout to choose.
  5. Make the bracelet. (8–10 min)
    • Youth string beads, using theme colors or designs to personalize each bracelet.
  6. (Optional) Add a friendship/teamwork element. (10–15 min)
    • Youth make bracelets for another youth to wear. Encourage them to add extra beads that represent friendship or teamwork.
  7. Wear and share. (2–5 min)
    • Youth wear their bracelets as motivation all season. They can share their troop goal and use it to spark conversations to sell cookies to others.
    • (Optional) Do a random exchange of the friendship/teamwork bracelets. They can add them to their friendship bracelet stack on their wrist to show troop unity.
