Activity Description: Youths discuss items they would bring to survive on a deserted island.
Items Needed:
- None (just the group and their creativity!)
- (Optional) Paper and pen or pencil or whiteboard and marker
(Optional) Before the Activity:
- Set the scene (3–5 min)
- Describe the imaginary island where the Youth are stranded.
- Use props or visuals if available to spark imagination.
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 min):
- Quick Fire Choices (7–10 min)
- Sit in a circle as a group. Make sure everyone can see and hear each other.
- Go around the group and have each Youth name two or three things they would want to have on the island. They cannot name something someone else has already named.
- (Optional) Use prompts like one thing they love, something to read, and their favorite food.
Optional Reflection:
- Discuss and explain choices (5–7 min)
- Ask Youth to explain why they chose each item.
- (Optional) Encourage them to think about how the items reflect their personality or could help on the island.
Group Challenge Variation
- As a group, choose three shared items (5–8 min)
- As a group, work together to narrow the full list down to three items everyone can share.
- Youth may vote or discuss to decide which items stay.
- Celebrate the final list and how it represents the group.
